Regulatories bodies report
Ofcom:
Regulator for the communications services
- Ofcom is the regulator for the communications services that we use and rely on each day. We make sure people get the best from their broadband, home phone and mobile services, as well as keeping an eye on TV and radio. The broadcasting code have 10 different sections that link together and shows to programme makers who require further advice on this code.
- Section 1:Protecting the under eighteens
- Ofcom protects the public and in this section, Ofcom specifically looks at the aspects of children under 18s in order to protect them. This allows children to grow up in a slow pace as well as allowing children to be children. I will need to ensure that I have an over look of these rules and standards when conducting my final edit of radio podcast . My content must be PG friendly and no information or content shown to the younger generations.
- Section 2:Harm and offence
- It is important to avoid including any content that could potentially harm or offend the audience, such as misleading images /notes or offensive material, in order to maintain the integrity of the radio project. When addressing topics related to social media, it is crucial to choose words thoughtfully to prevent any potential offense or to limit their usage.
- Section 3:Crime, disorder, hatred and abuse
- This section finds the importance of removing any content related to server crime, disorder, hatred, and abuse. It highlights that the content should not directly or indirectly incite criminal actions or disorder. Additionally, it mentions that any speech should not influence the audience towards criminal behaviour. In order to adhere to these guidelines for my radio project, I need to ensure that my content does not encourage any actions that the listeners might take.
- Section 4:Religion
- It is important as religion plays a big role in almost everyone's eyes, and no one would want to witness or hear anything discriminate against things like religion and culture. Therefore, Ofcom has rules and regulation that protect these issues from occurring for audience satisfaction and protection. I will not be including any discussion about race, gender or religion. Therefore, I will not need to worry about this section.
- Section 10: Commercial communications on radio
- This section is only for radio broadcasts. It makes sure that businesses communicate clearly so that consumers are protected. This is important for Ofcom because they want to make sure that every customer is safe. I need to know this because I want everyone to feel comfortable when they listen to my radio show as considering they will want to listen to educate themselves and watch for entertainment purposes. not to get offended and feel the opposite of what we want them to feel. .

This is for unit 14
location recce unit 14,16
Location recce:
For my podcast, I have chosen the school media classroom because all the accessories that will be required in the podcast will be there. For example, the computers and the professional microphones. Also, the correct software to film the audio. The computers that the school media classroom has is iMacs which is very beneficial for my voice overs and what I need to edit my audio. I am using this location for my podcast because it is easily to access the equipment and I wouldn’t need to go all locations to finish it off. It saves me time which makes it quicker to upload my audio onto the iMac and edit the podcast in one time. My podcast only requires 3 actors/characters which is two hosts and one psychologist. I will need to film this in a studio like setting, which in my opinion the media class is the best option. A positive thing about filming in the media class is that I will be able to film all 3 of the characters in 1 location. Another positive factor is that the media room is quiet so while I record there will be no background sound to ruin the podcast. Overall, I chose this place as the environment portrays the setting I want as the things I’d need is all there and it suits my script because its calming and a quiet place just as if we were in a studio filming a real podcast.
This is for both Unit 14 and unit 16!
Audio assets - unit 14 and 16
Audio assets | Description of Audio assets |
Intro music of zapping noise | Before the dialect begins there is an intro sound effect that i had added in order to alert the audience that the podcast has just begun |
Background aesthetic music | I added this background music to make the podcast seem more realistic, aesthetic and professional looking |
Outro music of zapping noise | At the end of the podcast, I used the same sound effect and reversed the sound in order to show that the podcast has now ended and finished as a whole. |
Funding unit 14.16
Funding is one of the most important aspects when it comes to several things. I will need to look at my funding aspects for my radio podcast. Funding doesn't necessarily have to come out of peoples personal money/pockets. These things are:
- Crowdfunding: This is when people in the public help put money towards whatever people are putting a crowdfund up for. This can be done on websites such as GoFundMe. This type of funding is never accurate as there is also uncertainty of if the public can help reach the goals needed, whether that is for peoples health or even businesses.
- Advertisements: Businesses use advertisement in order to raise brand awareness and increase sales, this allows the advertisement to give a chance to business or in our case my radio podcast income of some sort to help cover costs.
- sponsorship: Sponsorships is when business people join another company in order to help boost the advertisements faster. For instance with my radio podcast, if i had partnered up with someone I will need to promote what they wish and want me to promote at some stage of my podcast which gives me an additional income at the end.
- Grants: Grants is when the government support the business by funding/helping set up funds and spreading them to the public or for the public.
