LO2: Describe the multiplatform distribution methods (P3)

Analogue broadcast:

Analog broadcasting is done by using electromagnetic waves to transmit the signal information. Analog broadcasting uses radio waves of various frequencies to transmit the data its sending. AM and FM radio are both types of Analog broadcasting.

Digital broadcast:

The practice of using digital signals rather than analogue signals for broadcasting over radio frequency bands (radio broadcasting). Examples of a digital broadcast are television, podcasting, satellite and internet broadcasting.

Satellite and terrestrial Tv channels:

Satellite Tv signals are broadcast o space is an uplink satellite dish, they returned to earth to satellite aerials (small satellite dishes attached to your house). Terrestrial tv channels is a type of television broadcasting in which the signal transmission occurs via radio waves from the terrestrial (Earth-based) transmitter of a TV station to a TV receiver having an antenna.

Internet:

This method is using the internet for example streaming. They can reach a wider and very diverse market at any time and still raise awareness whilst getting recognition. The internet has content and media from all across every country.

Frequency range:

Frequency range refers to the distance between the lowest and highest frequency a piece of audio equipment can reproduce. It is measured in Hertz and is represented between the typical human hearing range of 20Hz to 20kHz.FM is short for frequency modulation, which refers to the means of encoding the audio signal on the carrier frequency. FM full power, low power, translator and booster stations operate in the 88 – 108 MHz band. There are many classes of radio stations.

LO1: Analyse the structure and content of a programme broadcast by BBC 4 (M1)

English Rose - Limelight:

1) My chosen radio station I will be analysing and discussing is called English Rose - limelight. This audio is broadcasted on BBC Radio every Fridays. English rose only has two series. The episodes are roughly all around 30 mins unless it is an introduction which would be 2 minutes. The target audience is aimed to people who enjoy mysterious, supernature drama. This programme also reflects how human beings like to be hidden within the real bubble within their own comfort, therefore, teenagers also find a desire to watch and enjoy this series. This programme can also be accessed by the BBC radio app that the audience need to install, listening on an actual radio or even BBC radios websites.

2)The overall structure of the programme is the presenter introducing the show and BBC Radio 4 on the channel. It then plays the news reporter, reporting victims (her victims) and dead corpse alongside of several roads and areas. This then leads to English roses daily day, receiving phone calls and hearing her thoughts and conversations with friends and workers. English rose tries to prevent her hunger from humans but talks about the struggles as her "mind wonders". She talks to the audience without directly talking but inform she audience of information she thinks of other and thought she thinks in her head. She also states her urges about her impulsive and intrusive thoughts.

3)The whole purpose of this series is to entertain and educate. The educational aspect is shown by English rose talking about how she is sick and tired of men and the male gaze. This is first shown at the duration of 6:50 where she lightly discusses her thoughts to the audience. ("he examines me in the mirror with a concentrated gaze I've seen many times, it says I see your athletic form as an insult and I will gobble you up, given half the chance "). This is just the beginning to what she talks about deeply about how men speak to women and how they treat women as objects. This is educational for the younger generations but men and women, considering the fact the boys will see how saying certain things or treating women can affect them which alters how they act and what not to do in the now or in the near future. On the other hand, the entertainment aspect of it is shown as of the vampire immortal, gloomy and mysterious aspect. At 13:01 "wow no okay, maybe the straightforward northern approach isn't going to work with these people " . One other reason I had wanted to pick this radio channel out of all the ones on BBC 4 is because it reminded me of my inner child, I loved watching vampire styled movies and I still do, I wouldn't pick to but if I had the opportunity or it was shown on the tv and I had nothing else to do I would genuinely enjoy watching it. Therefore, not matter the age, the immortal aspect will always be enjoyed. I am still a young adult and I find entertainment through this series.

Presenter/audio/music

Dialogue/meaning

00:00-00:04

Presenter tells the audience what BBC 4 airs, which is the Music, radio and podcasts. Traditional repetitive intro is played for English rose before every episode.

This helps the audience understand what radio service they are listening to and a reminder of what they serve the public. The intro aspect shows comfort within loyalty, the audience would be able to recognise English rose just based on the intro music.

00:05-00:10

Presenter introduces the show English rose and what episode is being aired along with the title of “The call of the wild”

Presenter introduces the show in a deep tone which sets the vibes of the show to the audience.

00:11-00:44

Audio of a bunch of different verbal reports on English roses victims and how different people had reported them. The music in the background sets a mysterious and blood curdling atmosphere.

The audience without context can understand that the attacker is a vampire and that the show will be based on a vampire hiding away between the humans. The atmosphere that is created due to the music in the background sets the tone for the theme of the episode, considering it is about victims that music makes hairs on the skin raise as no one can predict the killer's next victim when reporting the dead corpses.

00:45-01:04

A slow tempered piano song is what leads to the sound of an ocean's waves and a ship's horn.

The music playing in the background that fades out to the waves and the seagulls squawk suggest the first location is outside a long sort of beach setting.

01:05-01:17

A waitress speaking to english rose asking is she wants champaign along with her stating the ship is no ordinary ship but rather a theme park

This informs the audience that she is on a boat getting service, however it isn't as smooth and calm as being portrayed.

01:18-01:24

The audio is a dog barking and English rose getting frustrated whilst taking her anger out on the dog.

The dog portrayed that there is no comfort for the dog in itself as well as English rose.

01:25- 01:58

English rose presents she has messages to listen to which are more important.

The messages tell the audience the main purpose of this episode that she is going to move to NYC as the two people sending voice notes talk about her contract and enjoyment of her joining.

01:59-02:00

Door knocking leading to the door being opened

The recurring music helps the audience understand the shifts between location. The door being knocked on shows the fact that English rose is now in what sounds like a room on the boat as she states “I've snagged a cabin, you were right about the lower deck”. To then having the first interacting with a man stating he wants a bit of her “wo ho, English girl wh ho, wow ”

02:03-03:25

She secured the doors before trying to rest “I'VE DONE IT, SEALED MYSELF IN” . For the second time, a thirsty man is introduced as he is the one knocking and begging on the English roses door.

English rose begs as she tries to stay composed, the hunger for human blood gets the better of her as she lets this hungry thirsty man in.

03:26–03:52

She interacts with the man at the door.she talks about her feelings and intentions.

“GO AWAY” as her voice trembles. “It's better for you if you go as well”. This helps indicate to the audience that her intentions are to not make him her next victim. The next  audio is her subconscious thoughts, “I don't want to do this”. She then directly speaks to the audience stating “it's not an excuse, all im saying is that despite your best interest and a lifetime of instruction from your mother, your mind starts to wonder”

03:53-04:08

She directly speaks to the man again as she opens the door.

“Are you sure about this”, he responds “Absolutely, we need something to pass the time, let's have a bit of fun”

Dialogue/meaning

04:10-04:16

English Rose gives in and lets him in, whilst making him her next victim as he screams his last breath away.

“GET INN” whilst slamming the door behind him. She says dominantly, “shut your gob”.

04:17-05:55

The background audio is that recurring music, whilst the assistants on the boat talk through the speakers, welcoming passengers to NYC, whilst English rose walks to find her seat passenger who also picks her up in a limo, Maya.

Her footsteps are heard distinctly, among the sound of welcoming as boarding off of the boat. “There she is, I smell her before I see her,.. Gloselly dressed, holding a sign with my name on it”

05:55

English Rose looks at her voice messages which was an insight on the scene in Whitby as her supposedly friend is lying on her behalf.

“I've told them, i don't know where you are but they're gonna keep asking, because thanks to you, things are going complete-..”. She gets cut off as English rose pauses and closes her voice notes.

06:46

Door closes of the limo

Indicates they are ready to depart and go to the designated location.

06:51-07:02

English roses thoughts on the driver

“He examines me in the mirror, with a concentrated gaze, I've seen many times. It says, i've seen your athletic form as an insult and i will gobble you up given half the chance ”

07:02-07:32

The same recurring music whilst English rose is getting a tiny tour along the way to get to the designated location.

“So we drive through New York, with a limo as wide as my mum's caravan “. This shows the audience that she is getting a tour in the boujee limo.

07:33-8:30

English roses for the first time in her new room in the apartment. She discuss her thoughts and what this wealthy apartment she is staying in portrays to her,

“This is your new apartment”.she states in her own words that she did not realise she would be entering a wealthy home that is like a “palace ”.

“It suggests not privacy, but deep secrecy”. This then suggests to her thoughts that they will be too hung up on their own dark secrets to then worry about English roses non human like habits.

8:31-10:03

English Rose gets informed that there is a party thrown for her whilst she tries to talk her way out of it. Maya as of English rose having to babysit her child, tries to sweet talk her into dressing up and putting a lil makeup on to impress rich guests,

English rose states that she'd rather rest up as she is tired and that she doesn't usually wear makeup. Her boss states she has to come, considering it is a party specifically for her so she must attend.

10:04-11:00

The first signs of English being a vampire were put out there, however no suspicions were raised. She asks for her own key.

“Oh,wow you are frozen, are you okay? ”

“I'll get Simfia to order you some layers ”

English rose asks for a key or a ‘walk at night’, we all know what that indicates.she  states she likes to be alone but in reality she cannot have someone by her side when committing her sinful crimes.

11:01-11:15

English rose gets asked if she has any dietary requirements.

English Rose laughs at her unknowing stupidity of a question.”she really asks me that, seriously and i just about managed to say, without a smile. ‘I eat everything’ ”.

11:17-11:48

The same mysterious and blood curdling sound is once again the background along with the recurring intro music.

There are humans that report the crime scenes or reporting suspicious activities. “Can i get an idea of how many there are”

“Anyone who wants to know Dm me before my account gets blocked”. This statement suggests that whatever the situation is it's so bad that it has gone viral and all over social media.

11:48-11:52

There is a chatter of people talking although muffled, along with footsteps

The distinct muffle indicates to the audience that the party is now in action, people have turnt up and have attended.

11:53-12:12

English rose is introduced to a male who looks at  her and exaggerates her beauty and several other men.

“What a beautiful colour on you rose ”he said whilst English rose subconsciously says “Oh god, nightmare” which shows how much English rose don't want to be there.Another male says “welcome to paradise” whilst English rose gets more frustrated and uncomfortable as it continues

12:12-12:26

English rose stares at a waiter she finds “cute” whilst he glances back at her.

She states he's either “liking me maybe or more likely just wondering how i'm going to take this, wondering if i'm going to survive it, me too”. Rgus shows how her thought process is and the only thing truly entertaining her is the waitress.

12:27-12:58

English rose gets spoken to by several different men.

She gets more and more annoyed as teh different men speak to her without respect asking her if she would rather be called a “babysitter or an o-pair”

12:59-13:13

She then gets touched inappropriately.

“Wow, no” he responds with “okay, brutal”, she then says in her thoughts “okay, maybe the northern approach isn't going to work with these people”

“Sorry, i just don't like being (GROPED)surprised aha ”

13:25-13:13:43

Rose has to act fake and say hello and show interest with everyone.

“Hi””hi”

English rose says“This is so shit,it's like being in the zoo ”.

She feels that she cannot be herself as she states”how can anyone be themselves, when getting judged none stop” (as the babysitter, she looks less wealthy and worthy in the hierarchy in their eyes )

13:44-14:01

English rose overthinks and expresses her thoughts on what she thinks is how this woman is thinking when complimenting rose.

“I love your dress rose” to then Rose expressing her feelings on that statement. “She says it politely, but i've met enough girls in my life to know that she really means, WHY THE HELL ARE YOU WEARING THAT,WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE, YOU ARE JUST A NANNY”

14:02-14:11

English rose receives another voice note from the someone who seems like her friend,

Her notification pops off as she moves away to listen to the voice note. It says “Look at what you have done, all because you refuse to follow my rules, there are crowds looking for us”. Her voice trembles as she desperately wants a response from Rose as of her helplessness.

Dialogue/meaning:

14:12-14:17

The tap is running in what sounds like a bathroom. There are also sounds of an unknown person receiving a phone call whilst talking about the “new nanny". Someone is also snorting what sounds like cocaine.

New environment is introduced which is clearly the bathroom provided by the party hosts.

14:15-15:32

Toilet flushes, as the audio goes to English rose being stalked sending voice notes to the stalker back who is putting her at ease.

Confirmation of the bathroom as the toilet flushes and door is moved once unlocked and opened. English rose responds with a trembling terrified voice saying to “Don't call me again, i mean it, leave it to me”

15:34-17:04

Austin and Maya are discussing the whereabouts of rose.

Austin has a disappointed and impatient tone in his voice when saying the party was made for her to “fit in with our lifestyle”. Maya gets even more frustrated after stating to leave English rose alone and that the party wasn't for her, he done it for himself considering he wanted to have entertainment and an element of attention seeking,

Time:

Presenter/audio/music

Dialogue/meaning

17:04-17:25

English Rose has confronted Maya and Austin for talking bad about her behind her back, Notnowing how Maya expresses her words with confusion and shock.

“Oh, HII, eh we were just talking..” English rose responds with “I heard you talking trash about me”.

Austin also threatens/tries to embarrass English rose by saying “well i hope you read the contract”

17:26-17:45

A sort of village aesthetic upbeat music plays in the background while English rose makes a solid statement.

“I'll get back to the party, but if any of your creepy mates ever touches me again, they might regret it  ”

17:47-18:09

English rose meets even more new people, on this occasion being on a more positive and happy page,

One women says that they hide away on the roof top and another stated “at least we can throw ourselves off of it, if it gets too much”.

English rose likes it as she says “she steps through to my life like a brick through a window”

18:10-18:20

English rose likes the girl she is speaking to a little too much..

“Stop, no you can't go catching feelings”

18:21-18:26

The women discuss the men at the parties further.

“I was just telling rose, there are some creeps at these parties”

Delphine says “that's one word for them, criminal perverts might be more accurate ”

18:27-18:42

They discuss the tips and tricks of being a nanny and instructing what English rose should know and how she got to NYC.

“Delphine is a nanny too, stay with us we know all the tricks”

Define states “well point out the worst offenders”

“Rose came by boat from london”

19:20-20:00

Talking about where is what in NYC and what her job will be like

“The statue of liberty is over there” whilst English rose states “the view is amazing”

“There is the empire state building on your right ”, here you can imagine what type of roof and scenery they are on and seeing, it must be very high and beautiful as what they are portraying to the audience.

20:01-21:30

They are discussing the reasons behind their decisions to become nannies and having roses true thoughts on the matter itself.

“Every nanny is here since something didn't go according to plan”. English rose is suspicious by the question being asked.

English roses true thoughts were “she knows why im here and her look isn't buying my excuse and is saying actually tell me why you're here”

21:34

Rosie is trying to figure out why the person before her had left the job.

“Their last girl couldn't hack it” as one nanny states. English rose asks in concern, “There was another one before me?”

Delphine says “Not for long ” but English rose clocks and assumes that “she clearly knows more but wont tell me, well not till i've proved myself not confident .. they trade secrets very carefully”. English rose is trying to state that she knows it'll take time for her to gain their trust to get intel on all the latest gossip.

22:29-23:19

Welcoming English rose, by having some Champaign.

“But enough of them rose,, welcome to America, cheers,, got you, hold onto me i've got you" .The other nanny says “you are white as a sheet, you okay?” This indicates to the audience that English rose is malfunctioning once again. Probably due to the lack of blood.

23:20-23:37

Footsteps to what appears to be Austin, looking for rose.

“Anyone seen rose”.

23:38-23:57

Delphine expressing her feelings towards English rose and her sort of lust.

“And a lot, absolutely gorgeous, hey have my jacket baby girlllll ”. Delphine mimics herself as the way she was trying to act caring and protective of English rose.

23:58-24:08

Upbeat music with breathing sounds creating tension and suspense.

This makes the audience feel on edge.

24:09-24:25

Men are catcalling English Rose on the streets of NYC as of her in her irresistible cute dress.

“Hey, nice ass, wanna join us for a drink”.

Another man says,” hey girl, what are you doing down there?”

Many more: "ugly bitch”

“Hey, you are looking for a good time". To this one, English rose responds.

24:26-24:47

She is hungry for blood but looks to eat something not human as of not making someone else her victim but her in her dress is hard to resist.

“I was looking for a rat, but it seems I found you” she then tells us her thoughts, "and I've had my fill of gits like you tonight”. The man responds to her comment earlier” hey, I don't like when bitches like you are shout at me”.

24:48-25:05

She acts seductive in the male's eyes when in reality, little does he know his corpse is going to be laying there.

“Okay then, come closer so I can whisper it in your ear, I'm hungry and I'm trying not to eat things I shouldn't, but it's difficult". This indicates to the audience that she has no composure left and is most likely going to gobble him up.

25:06-25:18

English roses' fangs are sounded to be put on show as well as her biting, him screaming and her sucking all the blood out of his body.

“Omg no, NOO, OMG, ahhh”

25:19-25:39

Calming music is played in silence until Maya speaks.

“Hello, you awake honey, Do you mind if I come in?”.

English roses voice shakes as she whispers “oh noo”

25:40-26:41

The door opens as English rose is trying to stall but she gets introduced to the baby she will be babysitting.

“Wait a moment, just let me um..”

Maya says, “here dolly, this is your new girl rose, here take him, he's all yours”.

English rose: “oh sorry, I had my period, unexpectedly”.

“Look at him, he's so fat and gorgeous”.

26:42-27:26

The same recurring background music once again with the babies cry and English rose. To then having the same blood curdling reports and music.

“What the heck, you do smell so good.”

“On the upper east side”

“We need more information”.

“We need more investigators”.

“As the savage attacks are trending”.

“Social media”

“People are panicking”.

27:27

The outro, Radio presenter with educational purpose, talking to the audience.

“Hi, yeah you, don't go away ... did you know hormones change hour by hours. Talking about BBC radio 4 the fact that they made this podcast as how hormones have power over us females and make us act.

5) Throughout the whole series of English rose, there are different sounds and audios playing that are used which enhances and intensifies the scene. For example, the same spine-chilling audio in the intro and outro for English rose, which is played at 0:11 and 26:42. This is what sets the series the mysterious, sinister and action style within the movie. This scene is where there are a bunch of audios all together of people reporting dead corpses or unethical scenes. Hering horror in their voice is what goes horrifically with the sound and gives that bloodcurdling effect. It enhances the atmospheres vibes majorly.

6)The mode of address presented through English rose is her feminine thinking process and her thoughts about the men, the world and life struggle as well as her struggles being a vampire. One example is English rose assumes “she knows why I'm here and her look isn't buying my excuse and is saying actually tell me why you're here”. This is her thoughts but her overthinking as well which is played during 20:01 to 21:30. This is shown as she assumes off of facial expressions and no actual face to face confrontation. This gets the audience doubting if there is disbelief in either English rose or the women, she is assuming doesn't believe English rose. This is a clear demonstration that English roses thoughts, beliefs and statements are what influence the way the audience think and feel as well through the whole series.
