Regulatories bodies report
Ofcom:
Regulator for the communications services
- Ofcom is the regulator for the communications services that we use and rely on each day. We make sure people get the best from their broadband, home phone and mobile services, as well as keeping an eye on TV and radio. The broadcasting code have 10 different sections that link together and shows to programme makers who require further advice on this code.
- Section 1:Protecting the under eighteens
- Ofcom protects the public and in this section, Ofcom specifically looks at the aspects of children under 18s in order to protect them. This allows children to grow up in a slow pace as well as allowing children to be children. I will need to ensure that I have an over look of these rules and standards when conducting my final edit of radio podcast . My content must be PG friendly and no information or content shown to the younger generations.
- Section 2:Harm and offence
- It is important to avoid including any content that could potentially harm or offend the audience, such as misleading images /notes or offensive material, in order to maintain the integrity of the radio project. When addressing topics related to social media, it is crucial to choose words thoughtfully to prevent any potential offense or to limit their usage.
- Section 3:Crime, disorder, hatred and abuse
- This section finds the importance of removing any content related to server crime, disorder, hatred, and abuse. It highlights that the content should not directly or indirectly incite criminal actions or disorder. Additionally, it mentions that any speech should not influence the audience towards criminal behaviour. In order to adhere to these guidelines for my radio project, I need to ensure that my content does not encourage any actions that the listeners might take.
- Section 4:Religion
- It is important as religion plays a big role in almost everyone's eyes, and no one would want to witness or hear anything discriminate against things like religion and culture. Therefore, Ofcom has rules and regulation that protect these issues from occurring for audience satisfaction and protection. I will not be including any discussion about race, gender or religion. Therefore, I will not need to worry about this section.
- Section 10: Commercial communications on radio
- This section is only for radio broadcasts. It makes sure that businesses communicate clearly so that consumers are protected. This is important for Ofcom because they want to make sure that every customer is safe. I need to know this because I want everyone to feel comfortable when they listen to my radio show as considering they will want to listen to educate themselves and watch for entertainment purposes. not to get offended and feel the opposite of what we want them to feel. .
M1 - investigating the audience profile for BBC radio 4
BBC Radio 4 along with demographics and schedule:
BBC Radio 4 is a British national radio station owned and operated by the BBC. The station replaced the BBC Home Service on 30 September 1967 and broadcasts a wide variety of spoken-word programmes from the BBC's headquarters at Broadcasting House, London. It is also funded by the tv license.

It recorded its highest audience, of 11 million listeners, in May 2011 and was "UK Radio Station of the Year" at the 2003, 2004, 2008 and 2023 Radio Academy Awards. It also won a Peabody Award in 2002 for File on Costing £71.4 million it is the BBC's most expensive national radio network and is considered by many to be its flagship.

location recce unit 14,16
Location recce:
For my podcast, I have chosen the school media classroom because all the accessories that will be required in the podcast will be there. For example, the computers and the professional microphones. Also, the correct software to film the audio. The computers that the school media classroom has is iMacs which is very beneficial for my voice overs and what I need to edit my audio. I am using this location for my podcast because it is easily to access the equipment and I wouldn’t need to go all locations to finish it off. It saves me time which makes it quicker to upload my audio onto the iMac and edit the podcast in one time. My podcast only requires 3 actors/characters which is two hosts and one psychologist. I will need to film this in a studio like setting, which in my opinion the media class is the best option. A positive thing about filming in the media class is that I will be able to film all 3 of the characters in 1 location. Another positive factor is that the media room is quiet so while I record there will be no background sound to ruin the podcast. Overall, I chose this place as the environment portrays the setting I want as the things I’d need is all there and it suits my script because its calming and a quiet place just as if we were in a studio filming a real podcast.
This is for both Unit 14 and unit 16!
Audio assets - unit 14 and 16
Audio assets | Description of Audio assets |
Intro music of zapping noise | Before the dialect begins there is an intro sound effect that i had added in order to alert the audience that the podcast has just begun |
Background aesthetic music | I added this background music to make the podcast seem more realistic, aesthetic and professional looking |
Outro music of zapping noise | At the end of the podcast, I used the same sound effect and reversed the sound in order to show that the podcast has now ended and finished as a whole. |
Funding unit 14.16
Funding is one of the most important aspects when it comes to several things. I will need to look at my funding aspects for my radio podcast. Funding doesn't necessarily have to come out of peoples personal money/pockets. These things are:
- Crowdfunding: This is when people in the public help put money towards whatever people are putting a crowdfund up for. This can be done on websites such as GoFundMe. This type of funding is never accurate as there is also uncertainty of if the public can help reach the goals needed, whether that is for peoples health or even businesses.
- Advertisements: Businesses use advertisement in order to raise brand awareness and increase sales, this allows the advertisement to give a chance to business or in our case my radio podcast income of some sort to help cover costs.
- sponsorship: Sponsorships is when business people join another company in order to help boost the advertisements faster. For instance with my radio podcast, if i had partnered up with someone I will need to promote what they wish and want me to promote at some stage of my podcast which gives me an additional income at the end.
- Grants: Grants is when the government support the business by funding/helping set up funds and spreading them to the public or for the public.

Production journey unit 14.16
During my production I had realised that I am familiar with cameras and video production equipment ,but not as confident with knowing how to use sound equipment only and platforms for it such as garage band. In the images bellow, I was testing the quality and my understanding on how to use my equipment that I will need for my podcast. This unit 14 and 16, conducting and creating foley sounds has helped and given me an advantage in my understanding on how to use them
Considerations
My considerations before uploading my audio sound is making use of the iMacs that are provided by the school and choosing my delegated seat as once starting editing on final cut pro I cannot use another iMac or I will need to reedit. This then leads to exporting my radio podcast from final cut pro to YouTube(This is where the lossless element comes into the equation) and by doing this I will need to change the settings and download it on Quick time to then upload the QuickTime formatted version onto YouTube as a MOV. This is the most appropriate way and has been the way I have been uploading footage since starting my academic year in media. By creating the MOC, I now will have the chance to export it onto different devices.
With the sound, I had to use a mp3 to YouTube converter to then import that onto final cut pro. This is the easiest route for me as once having the sound downloaded , if the sound is needed in other editing versions such as first draft to final edit, I have the sounds saved on my iCloud on the iMacs.
Lastly, I'll apply upward compression. This allows me to ensure that, when creating the original and final edit, other sounds can be heard by making them quieter. Because they will be able to hear a variety of sounds throughout my radio program, this will be extremely helpful for all audiences.
This is for unit 14 and 16

compare presentation to programme - p1
My chosen radio station I will be analysing and discussing is called English Rose - limelight. This audio is broadcasted on BBC Radio every Fridays. English rose only has two series. The target audience is aimed to people who enjoy mysterious, supernature drama. This programme can also be accessed by the BBC radio app that the audience need to install, listening on an actual radio or even BBC radios websites. The whole purpose of this series is to entertain and educate. Th This is educational for the younger generations but men and women, considering the fact the boys will see how saying certain things or treating women can affect them which alters how they act and what not to do in the now or in the near future.
My second BBC radio is BBC radio 2 as that is what I had previously analysed. On here there is programme called Miss me. This is because it is a new release and is based around two women and there lives. This is published twice a week as a catch up. They discuss the pros and cons about there daily activities as well as the ups and downs in family, social life and many more topics The similarities of the two shows is that it is based about women's thoughts, emotions, thoughts and communicating between female to female.
The difference they have is English rose is more about her point of view as well as like listening to a story and listening to her conversations and just making the audience think they are in her shoes living her life in her moments as well as hearing her thoughts said outline. However, Miss me sounds more like a podcast but rather then interview questions and discussions is more of talking to each other as a general conversation about there lives and stories from the past as well as interacting with the audiences quires.
The personnel is different in the terms of presenters and casts as they are from different producers and actors. This is also factored in with the fact that the purposes are for the same target audience but has different storylines, plot and key themes. The dialect and tone for the style is completely contrasting . This is because English rose is a story based, emotion telling which also is entertaining as well as informative where as Miss me is more entertainment and judgement.

| 0:07 16 s | Host1 Hello everyone, welcome to today's podcast on family relations. My name is Zali Sulivan and I am your host along with Harper Johnnson. Today we are joined with a special guest Dr Zehra Bukeri, who specialises in child psychology and their behaviour in everyday aspects. | Podcast microphone starting to air sound effect | None |
| 0:23 6 s | Host2 Our hot topic of the week is,the dangers and benefits of social media as well as the mental health impact it has on our children and families. | None | Calming background music |
| 0:31 4s | host1 speaks passionately Good morning, Dr Bukeri, it is pleasure to have you on our show | None | Calming background music |
| 0:34 3s | Dr Zehra Bukeri “Thank you for inviting me” | None | Calming background music |
| 0:37 23 s | Host2 As you are aware that social media has become society's daily life element whether that is for personal use, making money, advertisement or communicating between one another. It has been a crucial part of the young generations' progression of growth. What are your thoughts on the way that social media has influenced mental health? | None | Calming background music |
| 0:52 20s | Dr Zehra Bukeri Of course, social media has just as many negative sides as well as positives. However focussing on people's mental health is a different view. This is because when people use social media, they are not all so bold, confident and talkative, there are also vulnerable and gullible people too. | None | Calming background music |
| 1:10 3s | Host1 Yeah, of course everyone's different. | None | Calming background music |
| 1:14 25 s | Dr Zehra Bukeri Yes,precisely! Therefore some people find that social media's beneficial elements are that society can use the platforms for networking, keeping in contact and communicating. On the other hand, the negatives may always out stand people that are not so strong which may have an impact on things like people developing social anxiety, low self esteem which may all lead to depression. | None | Calming background music |
| 1:39 25s | Host2 Correct me if i am wrong but this is usually created from a chain of events such as,social media having a beauty standard for everyone which leads to young teenagers which specifically makes them feel the need to change themselves to be beautiful or up to what society thinks is a good and healthy standard. | None | Calming background music |
| 1:52 16s | Dr Zehra Bukeri Yes, It is also caused by cyberbullying, feeling the need to look a certain way when wanting to post images or content and even creating unnatural comparisons. | None | Calming background music |
| 2:03 12 s | Host1 I see the perspective you are stating, When these issues occur and children go through these negative impacts how do you think that will make the children act and behave? | None | Calming background music |
| 2:11 1 m | Dr zehra Bukeri That's a thoughtful question, let me express some influencers and school students who have been through these aspects during their progress on being online and how this impacted them and what extreme length it raised to. Morgan Ribeiro was a tiktoker who died after feeling the need to get her stomach done which led to her death, this surgery was due to cyberbullying and bullying outside of social media growing up. A schoolgirl, Molly Russell died from "an act of self-harm while suffering from depression and the negative effects of online content. A young boy, Deniz Eskisan suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy who gets bullied online with name calling which he now suffers and attends therapy because of the impact it has had on his everyday life and self criticism. | None | Calming background music |
| 3:04 5 s | Host2 how will parents be able to realise that something is wrong? | None | Calming background music |
| 3:07 1 m | Dr zehra Bukeri Overall, children may start to want to stay indoors or feel the need to dress oversized or the opposite in order to either hide and try to feel less self conscious or dress to impress everyone but themselves in order to fit the social standards. This will have a toll on their mental health as well as making them feel down, anxious and agitated often. There behaviours start to become more aggressive and negative as it is projecting there inner negativity. | None | Calming background music |
| 3:36 5 s | Host1 Thank you for joining our podcast, let's end this on a good note, what is your overall view on social media? | None | Calming background music |
| 3:42 1 m | Dr Zehra Bukeri Although there are negative impacts, there are also content creators who are influencers, doctors, entertainment creators and many more supportive and positive pages that are dedicated to supporting positive mental health, motivation and advice which may also be interactive. If people want advice or a friendly presence they can either anonymously or privately reach out to certain creators online and seek help and other requirements needed. | None | Calming background music |
| 4:11 5 s | Host2 It was a pleasure having you join us today. | None | Calming background music |
| 4:13 1 m | Dr Zehra Bukeri Thank you for the opportunity to allow me to help you guys raise awareness and address matters of importance. | None | Calming background music |
| 4:20 10s | Host1 Thats it on Family relations, join us back on Chadwell heath radio next week on our podcast about women empowerment.Thursday the 20th, at 11:30 am. | None | Calming background music |
